Ingredients:
• 2 lb ground beef
• 2 Tbsp Butter
• 1 clove garlic
• 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
• 1 tsp Herbes de Provence
• Salt and pepper, to taste
• 4 cups mashed potatoes (homemade or store-bought)
• 1 cup grated Gruyère cheese
Directions:
1. Preheat & Prep – Preheat your oven to 392°F.
2. Cook the Beef – In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped red onion in the butter until soft and fragrant. Add the garlic and cook for a couple of minutes. (Add 1/2 cup red wine then cook down for 4 minutes - optional). Add ground beef, Worcestershire sauce, Herbes de Provence, salt, and pepper. Cook until the beef is browned and fully cooked.
3. Assemble the Layers – Spread a thin layer of mashed potatoes in bottom of pan. Then, spread the beef mixture evenly. Top with the mashed potatoes, smoothing them out with a spatula.
4. Add the Cheese – Sprinkle the grated Gruyère cheese generously over the top.
5. Bake – Transfer the dish to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
6. Serve & Enjoy – Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Pair with a fresh green salad or crusty bread for a complete French-inspired meal.
